NOTABLE PROJECTS

Maroc Murals has a rich history of Rowena's artistic contributions and publications.
In February, 2025 she worked on a regeneration project funded by Barnsley Council in Goldthorpe, South Yorkshire. Rowena designed and hand-painted public facing pieces along the high-street that responded directly to local identity, heritage and residents' lived experiences.

In 2024, Rowena started working with writer Sebastian Gregory to illustrate a fantasy novel (due to be published in 2026) with detailed book covers and in-depth geographically accurate drawings. To compliment this project Sebastian comissioned Rowena to begin designing a deck of 58 tarot cards  - used for spiritual guidance in the Celtic art of divination.

In August 2023, she co-curated and illustrated 'Trans Agenda" magazine for Boomtown Festival, rebounding off other illustrators to produce a new edition daily. At Boomtown Festival, Rowena also directed the design and execution of the prop painting on-set used by a theatrical team of actors in 'Hangar 161' - Chapter Two: The Twin Trail.

In 2019, Rowena co-designed a set of graphic illustrations for  'That Is Class' - a grassroots organisation aiding communities by acting as an informative space for open debate; originally made to empower and educate people about  inequality, and marginalised minorities.

Alongside her UK-based work, she has collaborated with many communities across Europe from 2018-2020, creating public murals that celebrate cultural icons and hold significance within local communities. She worked closely with residents to understand what stories could be told that mattered most to the people, evolving the design around the tales told and promoting collective idea exchange. Rowena has found this collaborative approach deeply rewarding, and found her artworks are consistently enriched by her respect for the authenticity of the communities being represented.

In 2018, Maroc Murals made its first leap to Portugal, creating murals to elevate the rich history of Sintra by painting impressionistic architectural pieces for private holiday rental apartments. In 'Es Spontanous' live music venue she fabricated melody inspired live-murals during sets from live bands; free-styling designs centred around a love for the traditional Portugese music genre 'Fado' which is recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Fado is known for its soulful expression of 'saudade' - a Portugese word that is not translatable to English.

Later in Jan 2022, Maroc Murals was employed by 'Cadela Calota' a Rehabilitation and Rehoming Centre for Dogs in Odiaxere, Algarve. This Portugese non-profit organisation commissioned Rowena to design a new logo and hand-paint a 10m x 8m large-scale mural, incorporating a photo-realistic portrait of Buster the dog with their brand logo.

EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS

MAROC MURALS has a well built background in educational outreach, having delivered countless pop-up workshops for the public in Bordeaux, Toulouse and Montpelier, France. The sessions focused on cultural engagement and learning, using street art as a tool to inspire curiosity and awareness in young people.

COMMUNITY
DRIVEN ENGAGEMENT

Maroc Murals' practice extends beyond the visual to include public engagement and performance art. She has collaborated on public art projects and performances, using creativity as a catalyst for community interaction. Rowena is motivated by making art accessible to the people.

CORE PRINCIPALS AND METHODOLOGY

Maroc Murals’ approach to art is driven by community and cultural celebration. Her murals go beyond visual expression, becoming collaborative projects shaped by local voices and shared stories. This philosophy ensures that each piece genuinely reflects the people and place it represents...

“rooted by the belief that art has the power to spark unexpected conversations and awaken wonder.”
